Overview

Pauz ("we," "our," or "us") is a mental wellness app designed to help people manage anxiety and OCD through nervous system regulation tools. We take your privacy seriously — particularly because the data you share with Pauz is sensitive and personal in nature.

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. If you have any questions, reach us at support@pauzapp.com.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use Pauz:

  • Account information: Your email address and encrypted password, collected when you create an account with email. If you sign in with Google or Apple instead, see "Signing in with Google or Apple" below.
  • Health and wellness data: Anxiety ratings, joy scores, rumination levels, compulsion tracking, and other responses you provide in your daily check-ins and journal entries.
  • Goal and habit data: Goals you create, custom habits you track, and your progress over time.
  • Messages to Richard: The messages you send to Richard, our AI chat companion, are processed in real time to generate a reply. We do not save your conversations with Richard (see "Richard, our AI chat companion" below).
  • Mind Landscape results: Your terrain, season, and time-of-day preferences from the onboarding quiz.
  • Usage data: How you interact with app features, which features you use, and when you use them (collected via Mixpanel).
  • Purchase information: Subscription status and transaction records managed through Apple's App Store. We do not store your payment details directly.
Signing in with Google or Apple

You can create a Pauz account or sign in using Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. When you do, here is exactly what happens with that data:

  • What we receive from Google: your name, email address, and profile picture (Google's basic profile information), plus a unique account identifier. We request only these basic sign-in permissions. We do not access your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, contacts, or any other Google data.
  • What we receive from Apple: a unique account identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (which may be an Apple private relay address).
  • How we use it: only to create your Pauz account, sign you in, keep you signed in, and contact you about your account (for example, support replies). We do not use it for advertising.
  • How we store it: it is stored with your account in our authentication and database provider, Supabase, encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Who we share it with: no one, except Supabase, which stores it on our behalf to operate sign-in. We do not sell it, use it for ads, use it to train AI models, or send it to Anthropic or Mixpanel.
  • How to remove it: deleting your Pauz account (Profile → Delete Account in the app) permanently deletes this information. You can also remove Pauz's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Pauz's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, personalize, and improve the Pauz app experience
  • Generate AI-powered insights and reflections through the Anthropic API
  • Generate Richard's replies to the messages you send him
  • Maintain your account and sync your data across devices via Supabase
  • Understand how features are used so we can improve the product (via Mixpanel analytics)
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to serve advertisements. We do not share your mental health data with insurance companies, employers, or any third party for purposes beyond operating the app.
Third-party services

Pauz uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • Supabase: Stores your account information and app data securely. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
  • Anthropic (Claude API): Processes certain inputs (such as journal content, check-in data, and messages you send to Richard) to generate AI-powered reflections, insights, and chat replies. Richard's messages are sent through our secure server rather than directly from your device. Data sent to Anthropic is governed by their privacy policy.
  • Mixpanel: Collects anonymized analytics about how features are used. This helps us understand what's working and improve the app. Mixpanel does not receive your health data or journal content.
  • Apple StoreKit: Manages subscription purchases through your Apple ID. Apple's privacy policy governs this data.
Richard, our AI chat companion

Richard is an AI chat feature inside Pauz, powered by Anthropic's Claude. He is designed to respond to reassurance-seeking questions related to anxiety and OCD by acknowledging your feelings without providing reassurance.

  • We do not store your chats. Messages you send to Richard are passed to Anthropic only to generate a reply. Pauz does not save your Richard conversation transcripts to our database.
  • Richard is an AI, not a person. His responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Not a substitute for professional care. Richard is not a therapist, doctor, or crisis service and does not diagnose or treat any condition. A disclaimer is shown each time you open the chat.
  • Emergencies. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US). For a medical emergency, call 911.
Data retention and deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and health data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records.

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and the data linked to it, including check-ins, notes, goals, and medication logs. You can also request deletion by emailing support@pauzapp.com with the subject line "Delete my account."

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain types of processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@pauzapp.com.

Children's privacy

Pauz is not designed for or directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Continued use of Pauz after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
